APUSH Midterm Review Sample Essay The course in Advanced Placement U.S. History was created to guarantee the equal knowledge base that they will see during the survey class in a college. College-level textbooks are most commonly used for these courses to provide all the necessary information about different periods from the past. There are the conservatives in the US that donât like the idea of this course and the exam itself. They consider this course to foster patriotism and have a negative influence on students. An average student has to spend about three hours and fifteen minutes on taking the APUSH exam that includes two parts. Each of the parts is divided into two sections. The first one contains 55 questions that offers a student to pick up the right variant among four possible ones. This section contains questions about the period from the first contact of Americans with Europeans to the nowadays. The second section of the first part includes questions where a student has to write a short answer. A student has to finish answering the questions from the first part in 105 minutes. The second part of the exam requires writing long answers in a form of an essay. Section A of the second part contains document-based questions where a student has to write an essay using seven primary sources of information. There are the prompts that should be used in the essay. There are thematic essay prompts in the second section B of the seconds part of the exam. It means students have to write an essay that responds to one of the prompt. There are several of them and the students choose the one that they are better at. Thematic questions of the APUSH exam can be about one or several historical knowledge and skills such as distinguishing specific periods, find causes of events, compare two or more things or personalities and changes over time. The time frame for the essay is not limited to the periods prior to the Jamestown founding in 1607 or the election of Reagan in 1980. Students have fifteen minutes to learn the prompts, make necessary notes. They canât start writing before this time is over. They will have 90 minutes left for writing where 55 minutes go for the DBQ essay and the rest 35 minutes should be devoted to thematic essay writing. Over 500,000 students have taken the APUSH midterm around the world. This exam takes the second place after the AP English Language exam. The total exam score is calculated by evaluating the first part to gain 60% and the second part to gain 40% of the overall score. Taking an exam is a tough task that requires a prior preparation and a quite a long education process. The results of the exam can influence the further education and define the route of future activities including the educational aspect. Knowing the history is obligatory for many qualifications, so the reason for the popularity of the APUSH exam is obvious.
